One Fat Man Wasting Your Time

Day 19 – Diet Still on Track

Staying motivated is the key, and I will not allow anything to throw me off track, even if I become surrounded by birthday cake eaters at work.

Today is our monthly birthday celebration, so if I have a piece, since it is my birthday month, then so be it.  I will enjoy it, realize it is wonderful, then get back into focus.  Now if I go back for seconds and thirds, well, then I will have a problem.

Day 15 – Two Weeks Intense Dieting Finished

Today is day 15, and I just finished two weeks of serious dieting.  My average numbers were:

  • 1923 Calories
  • 25% Saturated Fat
  • 66% Total Fat
  • 4% Carbs
  • 29% Protein
  • 20 Net carbs per day
  • 9  Pound total loss

My only exercise has been walking, so I am cautiously pleased with my success.  I will remain reserved, no time for celebration, and I will continue with my current strategy.  We’ll see how the next two weeks fare.

Today’s numbers are:

  • Weight – 264 pounds
  • Blood Pressure – 140/91
  • Resting Pule Rate – 54

Day 14 – Strong Slide into the Weekend

  • Weight – 265 lbs
  • Blood Pressure – 138/89
  • Resting Pulse Rate – 53

The problem with dieting is trying to keep the hunger factor to a minimum.  Yesterday I managed 1517 calories while keeping the carbs at a net total of 14.  I broke through the plateau.  Let’s see what the next few days brings.  The weekend is always rough.

I added a new supplement to my daily diet, actually two supplements so we’ll see how that affects my overall well being.  Right now I am  cautiously encouraged by my small progress.

Day 13 – A Small Drop

  • Weight – 267
  • Blood Pressure – 130/88
  • Resting Pulse Rate – 53

Gosh, I finally drop to 267 pounds.  Yesterday was rather intense at work with the manager putting the pressure on.  Heck, I’m getting laid off in October; why don’t you back off a bit Jack?

My speech evaluation in Toastmasters went well, I walked over 12,000 steps, kept the calories at 2000, watched a really good movie called Strictly Ballroom, yet I spent most of the day being stressed and annoyed.

Two more days until the weekend, so the plan is to watch my calories and carbs over the next couple days, walk 12,000 steps or more each day, and then a long hike along the river on Saturday.   I promise not to get too stressed because I really don’t need it.

Day 10 – Feeling Physically Good, but am Sad

Blood Pressure 125/78 Pulse Rate 57 268 pounds

Day 10 of dieting and the weight loss is frozen for several days now at 268 pounds. This is where I get frustrated, so right now I really have few distractions…well that’s not true. But I must remain vigilant because whatever happens over the next year, I will drop this weight.

I am sad because the woman I love tremendously will not come home. It has been over five months since she left and I realize this is probably permanent. At this point I have to move toward legal separation and/or divorce. Love is most wonderful and excruciating and right now it hurts beyond the pale.

Mrs F, where did we go wrong?

Day 9 – Gotta Stay Focused

Just took my blood pressure reading and was 128/83 which is ok, however my resting pulse rate was 51.  That’s low.

I lost five pounds this week but I am cautious.  I’ll be happy when I put in another serious week of dieting and walking.  My waist size dropped one inch since the beginning of the year, which just means that my visceral fat will be the last to go.

Talk is cheap, execution is the key, otherwise it’s all hot air.

Day 8 – One Week Complete

Yesterday was a great day because I resisted donuts, cake, and cookies,  and stayed on the diet. That was a true victory. I came home and wallowed in my own glory,  enjoying every second of it.

I completed seven days of dieting, so that is a small victory, averaging 1894 calories, and losing five pounds from 273 to 268. I will continue onward, as I feel in the zone right now, trying to stay under 2000 calories per day.

I completed the walking for February, tracking every day, averaging 7974 steps per day. My new goal for March is upping that to averaging 12,000 steps per day. I’m thinking of upgrading my pedometer, as a nice birthday present to myself. I also need a nice new exercise watch.

Goals for the week:

  • 12,000 steps/day
  • Less then 2000 calories/day
  • Utilize Fitday and Walker Tracker

Day 6 – Hanging tough

Down two pounds from yesterday to 268 pounds. Last night I avoided eating after reaching 1600 calories, went to bed with that faint hunger in the pit of my stomach, and just watched American Idol. It worked. I also gave my legs a rest and didn’t do a lot of walking, so today I feel much stronger.

My speech in Toastmasters went ok, my delivery was better, but it lacked animation and energy. I’ll have to work on that. I’m glad, because it was for a speech contest, and the topic I chose was a bit personal, and I choked up and started to get emotional, so to maintain, I couldn’t rise to the occasion.

What’s in store today? I’ll put in a good day at work, stay focused on watching what I eat, and then end the day with an extended walk. Oh! Let’s get a reading on the blood pressure.

Day 4

BP – 121/84  resting pulse rate 57

Good morning planet.  Down to 270 pounds today.  I need to be subdued, focused, calm, and in complete control.  Above all else, I must remain within the guidelines that I have established for this diet.

Weight Gain and Walking

After going to the doctor on Tuesday, I found out I gained 21 pounds since October 22, 2007. YIKES! Of course, Mrs F and I high-fived each other. I think the ten pound gain over the last few days was an anomoly, and it is proving to be true as my weight is starting to drop from my 284 pound high on Wednesday. Right now I am at 277 lbs. In reality, I think I’ve gained about 15 pounds since October 22.

My exercise program has been put on hiatus as I recover from a walking accident; I was hit by a car. I was fortunate and unfortunate, as it could have been much worse.

I am getting into walking again, but I have never found it to be a very good method for controlling weight. An article I found supports my theory that someone my age and sex needs to walk 12000 steps in order to just maintain weight. Christ, what do I have to do to lose weight? Fortunately, I use walking as means to clear out my cobwebs and maintain my mental health. At any rate, I think I will work to get up to 12000 steps per day.

I haven’t been using Fitday to keep track of my food intake, so I believe that has really done harm on my diet. Diligent efforts are needed in watching what I eat. Today I hope to begin using Fitday on a daily basis.
